Dysport is here! Finally, the much anticipated competitor to Botox is here. Dysport, abobotulinum toxin, received FDA approval in April and became available in our office last month. Dysport has the same mechanism of action as Botox, but is formulated differently. Used cosmetically for 18 years in 23 other countries, Dysport is not a new product, only new to the United States. Dosing for Dysport is different than Botox and cannot be compared, but administration is the same. Before FDA approval, Dysport was studied in 3,000 patients and found to be safe and effective. Sculptra, also known as the “liquid facelift”, works by both filling in lines and wrinkles and by stimulating the body to produce new collagen and underlying tissue, thereby creating a fuller, more youthful appearance.

Results are natural-looking and appear gradually over a few weeks’ time. While the results of other fillers such as Restylane and Cosmoplast last only a few months, Sculptra can last two years or more because it causes the body to stimulate its own collagen.
