Thomas Funcik, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine (with Honors)
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 after
completing his premedical work at Duke University. Dr. Funcik was
hand selected by Allergan, Inc., the makers of Botox®, to be a
National Training Center for other doctors.
While
in medical school, Dr. Funcik was ranked number one in his class during
his required clinical rotations. From 1989 - 1994, Dr. Funcik completed
his postgraduate surgical internship and Otolaryngology - Head and
Neck Surgery training at the Medical University of South Carolina,
winning a prestigious national research award from the American Academy
of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPFS).
Dr.
Funcik was selected for specialized fellowship training with the AAFPRS
in Cincinnati, Ohio, during 1994 and 1995. He specialized exclusively
in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the nose, face, eyes, and
scalp under the guidance of the nationally renowned Devinder S. Mangat,
M.D., FACS. In 1995, Dr. Funcik received board certification from
the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery and passed
the written and oral examinations of the American Board of Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
He
remains in research and lectures nationally in the field of plastic
and reconstructive surgery. Research includes decreasing post operative
swelling and making facelift scars less conspicuous. He has authored
numerous scientific publications and teaches physicians in training.
