What is a Forehead Lift?

The main purpose of the forehead lift is to enhance the face by improving the way the eyes, upper eyelid and entire face are perceived. It can make you look alert, happy and rested. Forehead lift surgery improves multiple areas of the face, including:

  • The wrinkles that develop horizontally across the forehead
  • Lines that appear on the bridge of the nose or between the eyes
  • Vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows (the “11s”)
  • Sagging brows and hooding on the eyelids

There are multiple forehead lift techniques available to achieve the desired results, and Dr. Funcik is highly experienced in all of them. The patient’s entire face, hairline, hair health and hair style must all be considered carefully in deciding the best approach.

Forehead Lift Charleston

One simple but sometimes inconvenient truth is that ALL forehead lifts, with the sole exception of the Pre-ticheal, or hairline lowering approach, result in a raising of the hairline. Sometimes this can create an unnatural looking result. On the other hand, if a patient already has a low forehead, minimal issues with thinning, and wears bangs, they would best be served with incisions hidden entirely in the hair bearing area

More commonly, with aging, the hairline is already receded, and the forehead constitutes more than one third of facial height. In that case, the hairline can actually be lowered, often creating a more youthful appearance, by placing the incision hidden in the frontal hairline. Alternative approaches include:

Pre-ticheal browlift

Men and women with high hairlines or tall foreheads often opt for this technique. Patients with minimal thinning or bangs tend to do best.

Behind the hairline

Placing incisions across the hairline to minimize scarring, Dr. Funcik fully accesses the tissues and facial structure during this traditional procedure.

Minimal incision

In comparison to a traditional brow lift, this technique requires shorter and fewer incisions. It is less extensive and requires less recovery time.

Mid-forehead

When improvement is only necessary in the mid-forehead region, skin is removed above the eyebrows and lifts muscles around the eyes. This technique is often ideal for men with high hairlines and multiple forehead wrinkles.

Endoscopic

The newest and most commonly-used forehead lift technique, the use of an endoscope requires smaller, fewer incisions, as well as increased precision and accuracy while working with delicate facial tissues. While this approach requires fewer incisions, it does raise the hairline and offers less exposure to the frowning muscles than an open approach, which are cauterized to decrease the need for Botox postoperatively.

During your consultation with Dr. Funcik, factors such as your health, medical history, and cosmetic goals will be evaluated to determine which of these techniques is right for you in order to get the best results in a forehead lift Mount Pleasant, SC has to offer.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift is typically performed on individuals between the ages of 40-60 in order to improve the signs of aging, but it can also be helpful to correct low brows that block vision for some.

Forehead lift surgery is ideal for those with sagging brows, deep furrows between the eyes (“11s”), horizontal forehead wrinkles, and tissue that hangs down around the outer part of the eyelids.

If you’re considering having a forehead lift in Charleston, please don’t hesitate to call Dr. Funcik’s office.

What is Recovery Like?

The extent and duration of your recovery time will depend on which technique is used during your surgery. Doctor Funcik will instruct you on any necessary aftercare for your incision sites in order to reduce post-surgical infection or complications.

You may be advised to sleep with your head elevated during healing, and your results will be monitored by Dr. Funcik through follow-up appointments. To continue treatment, some patients might also consider microdermabrasion or microneedling later on.

Most patients are ready for social interaction in 10-14 days.
