Nasal surgery, also known as rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedure performed at Dr. Thomas Funcik’s Office. The rhinoplasty procedure serves 2 purposes. The first is to change the appearance of the nose. The other is for functional purposes. Some people have trouble breathing through their nostrils due to injury or congenital defect. To address either of these issues a surgical incision is made inside the nose to remove cartilage. After this incision is closed another is made between the nostrils to allow access to the bridge of the nose and to reshape nostrils. When the procedure is complete a splint dressing is placed over the nose. Seven days post-operative this splint is removed. Makeup may be applied after the dressings are removed. Bending and lifting should be limited for several weeks. There is little discomfort associated with nasal surgery and pain medication is provided for you. Anesthesia is required for the rhinoplasty procedure in the form of IV sedation.
